Microsoft Announces Different Windows 8 Editions

Microsoft has announced the different editions that will be available for Windows 8.

First off, the official name will be “Windows 8” for the new upcoming Windows for 32/64 bit platforms.

The three editions will be :

  • Windows 8 (recommended for most home users as well as for most basic to medium tasks)
  • Windows 8 Pro (recommended for businesses, IT personnel and for advanced tasks)
  • Windows RT a.k.a Windows on ARM or WOA (for PCs and tablets powered by ARM processors

Features like encryption, domain connectivity, PC management and virtualization are available only in Windows 8 Pro. Also, Windows Media Center will now be available as economical media pack add-on to Windows 8 Pro.

Windows RT will have touch optimized desktop versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote and PowerPoint.
