How to enable telnet in Windows 7

Windows 7 by default doesn’t come with telnet server and client services as enabled.

We need to enable them manually and that’s a good thing from security perspective.

Here is how to enable Telnet in Windows 7.
It is pretty much the same as enabling in Vista, please refer to my earlier post for Vista.

1.Go to Control Panel and select Large icons.

2.Click on the Program and Features tab and then select Turn Windows feature on or off.

3.Check the boxes titled Telnet client and Telnet server.

4.Once done, verify whether the services are now active by going to command prompt (Start > Run)  or directly in the Start Menu search box and typing telnet.

Now all we have to do is start the telnet service on Windows 7 in order for telnet to work.

Go to Start menu and type services.msc in the search box.

Browse to Telnet service and select Automatic, hit the Start option after that.

All done.
